The Auckland–London time difference is one of the most challenging for remote teams. At roughly 12 hours apart, the two cities are almost exactly on opposite sides of the clock. Standard business hours in Auckland (9am–6pm NZST) correspond to late evening or night in London (9pm–6am GMT), which means any overlap requires one side to be outside normal working hours.
The offset fluctuates between 11 and 13 hours throughout the year because both countries observe daylight saving — but on opposite seasonal schedules. New Zealand's summer (when NZDT adds an hour) coincides with the UK's winter (when the UK is on GMT, not BST). This means the gap reaches its smallest (11 hours) when NZ is on NZDT and the UK is on GMT, and its largest (13 hours) when NZ is on NZST and the UK is on BST.
For teams with regular calls between NZ and the UK, the most common approach is an 8am London meeting, which falls in the evening in Auckland — 7pm or 8pm depending on the time of year. Some teams use Thursday 8am London as a standing meeting because it is late enough on Wednesday evening in Auckland to be feasible for most staff.
